By Apostle Howard Tundu
Theme
Be Found Faithful - Serving God with Humility and Integrity
Scripture Reading
Luke 16:10–12; 1 Corinthians 4:1–2; Philippians 2:5–8; Matthew 25:14–30
1. Introduction: The Measure of a True Minister
In the Christian walk, these three virtues—faithfulness, humility, and stewardship—form the foundation of effective service and spiritual maturity. They reflect the character of Christ and determine how we handle what God entrusts to us.
In God's Kingdom, success is not measured by popularity, numbers, or fame, but by faithfulness.
Scriptural Anchor
1 Corinthians 4:2 – "It is required in stewards that a man be found faithful."
2. Understanding Faithfulness
Definition: Faithfulness means being consistent, trustworthy, and loyal to God and the assignment He has given you, whether or not people see or applaud you.
Biblical Examples
Noah – Faithfully built the ark amid mockery (Genesis 6).
Joseph – Remained faithful in prison before ruling in the palace (Genesis 39–41).
Daniel – Served faithfully under pagan kings without compromising faith.
Characteristics of Faithfulness
- Dependable in small things (Luke 16:10)
- Consistent even when unappreciated
- Loyal under pressure or delay
- Obedient when no one is watching
Reflection: Can God trust you with more based on how you handle the little?
Faithfulness is proven over time, not in a moment.
God promotes those who are faithful in small things.
Our faithfulness to God reflects our love and trust in Him.
3. Humility: The True Mark of Greatness
Definition: Humility is the ability to submit to God's will and to esteem others better than yourself.
Ministry is not a stage for pride—it is a platform for service.
Main Points
- Humility attracts God's grace and favour
- It enables teamwork and servant leadership
- True humility is not weakness but strength under control
Scriptural Anchors
Philippians 2:5–8 – "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus."
James 4:6 – "God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble."
1 Peter 5:6 – "Humble yourselves… that He may exalt you in due time."
Biblical Examples of Humility
Moses: Called the meekest man on earth despite leading millions (Numbers 12:3).
Jesus: Washed His disciples' feet (John 13:13–15).
Paul: Called himself "a servant of His congregants for Christ's sake" though an Apostle (2 Corinthians 4:5).
Dangers of Pride in Ministry
- Pride makes one unteachable
- Pride takes glory meant for God
- Pride isolates and blinds ministers from correction
4. Stewardship: Managing What Belongs to God
Every minister is a steward, not an owner.
Definition: Stewardship is the responsible management of everything God entrusts to you—time, talent, finances, relationships, and opportunities.
Key Scriptures
Genesis 1:28 – God gave man dominion and responsibility over creation.
Matthew 25:14–30 – The parable of the talents.
Luke 16:10–12 – Faithfulness in little qualifies one for much.
Main Points
- We are managers, not owners—everything belongs to God
- Stewardship covers spiritual gifts, finances, and personal responsibilities
- Good stewardship brings increase; negligence brings loss
Areas of Stewardship
Your Calling: Guard and grow the ministry God gave you.
Your Time: Use it wisely—don't waste it on distractions.
Your Gifts and Skills: Develop them through learning and discipline.
Finances: Handle church and personal resources with integrity.
People: Shepherd them with love and responsibility.
5. Faithfulness in Hidden Seasons
Many ministers fail because they cannot endure the hidden season—when no one notices their effort.
Scriptural Example
David was faithful tending sheep before he ever faced Goliath (1 Samuel 17).
Scripture
Galatians 6:9 – "Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you shall reap if you faint not."
6. Maintaining Humility as You Grow
Growth and success in ministry can become dangerous without humility.
Practical Ways to Stay Humble
- Continually acknowledge God as the source of success
- Remain teachable—always learning from others
- Honour those who came before you
- Avoid self-promotion and comparison
- Keep serving, even in small ways, regardless of your position
7. Accountability as a Sign of Stewardship
Faithful ministers don't operate in isolation. They submit to spiritual authority and systems of accountability. Church Leaders should be able to be accountable to systems of accountability in the form of other leaders or Church Board.
Practical Discipline
Give reports, manage finances openly, and welcome counsel or correction.
Scriptural Anchor
Hebrews 13:17 – "They watch over your souls as those who must give account."
8. Rewards of Faithfulness and Humility
God's promotions are rooted in proven faithfulness.
Divine Rewards
- Increase in grace and influence
- Open doors for greater assignments
- Eternal commendation—"Well done, good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:23)
- Peace and lasting fruit in ministry
9. Practical Assignments for Mentees
Faithfulness Check
Identify one area of your life or ministry where you can become more consistent or reliable.
Humility Practice
Do a simple act of service this week (e.g. clean the church, assist a junior member) without seeking recognition.
Stewardship Plan
Write how you will manage your time, gifts, and finances more responsibly for the next 3 months.
Prayer
"Lord, help me to be faithful in the little, humble in success, and wise in stewardship. May I always remember that everything I have belongs to You. Teach me to serve with gratitude, lead with humility, and manage Your resources with integrity. Amen."
